I needed to change the anode rod in my Suburban water heater on my RV. Anode rods are sacrificial devices designed to slowly disintegrate as water is heated over time. This disintegration creates small particles of "metal" that collect in the bottom of the heater tank. When changing the anode, it''s best to flush those metal bits out of the tank before installing the new anode. Hence, the purchase.

I put the flusher on my garden hose, turned on the spigot and stopped the water flow while walking to the RV. Anode rod out, insert the flushing wand into the tank and release the pressure. The wand CAME OUT OF THE HANDLE AND WAS NOW IN THE TANK! Bad build quality for a $10-$15 plastic nozzle. I was able to fish the wand out of the tank using forceps. I had to put my own hose clamp on the handle to repair it.

Once repaired, the wand does what it is supposed to do. Amazing how much detritus metal came out of that tank. It''s something I''ll use whenever I change the anode rod. I was lucky to be able to get the wand out of the tank. If it had gotten crooked, I''m not sure I could have fished it out looking through a 3/4 hole into a very dark place.

It works but Camco needs to ensure the QC on their tools is improved.

I''ve drained tanks before to change an element but never rinsed one. I was amazed how much debris & residue was inside. For under $40.00 I replaced both elements, the sacrificial anode, bought the tools to remove both and that included this wand. Have you seen the price of new water heaters? We have two in our home and regular service is now on the annual list.

Not sure if there is any way to retrieve or if it will hurt anything being in there (like the electric heating element).
STAY AWAY from this product so you don''t find yourself in the same position. Find one with the wand part firmly attached not just stuck on like this

    UPDATE
Getting ready for spring trip so I thought I would give Camco 1-more shot. Ordered a replacement for the wand that blew into my water heater.
(Never heard a peep from Camco on this)!!!!!!!
Received new one and noticed tube is split and would probably do the same thing - blow off!
Amazon promptly sent a replacement - good service. Same thing - split and ready to blow into another unsuspecting water heater tank.
This is just plain old Craxxxxx.
Obviously Camco is doing nothing about quality control however Amazon - I surprised.
This vendor should not be allowed to market on Amazon .

Doesn''t do much good to write a review - vendor nor Amazon read.

This gadget is somewhat mandatory for RV owners - you need to flush out your hot water tank once a year and this gadget is perfect for that. It has a shutoff, which you need, and the long thin hose, curved at the end, and sized to reach all corners of your heating chamber.

Only problem is, the quality is questionable. Mine arrived in new sealed packaging with a split in the wand where it connects to the yellow body. This makes it useless, but it can easily be repaired. I''ve seen one reviewer who described the exact same issue - and they worked around it with a piece of gaffer tape. Another reviewer talked about how the wand popped off under water pressure, and was ejected into the tank, never to be retrieved again.

So let me see... not only does it not work, it is also dangerous if you insist on making it work. Baad.

As always Amazon is awesome, so when I initiated a return, I had a choice to either get a replacement sent out immediately, or get a no-return refund. I chose the latter. My rationale is that there is some chance that the replacement has the same issue (other users have had this problem too) or develops the same issue after using it, and I didn''t really want it anyway, for precisely that reason.

Now I see what this gadget is all about, it occurred to me that I could make my own, and way better. Use a brass hose shutoff, and then get a 3/4" to 1/4" hose barb adapter, and then fit some 1/4" tubing on it. If you use copper tubing, you can easily bend it to the right shape, and form a nozzle at the end of it. Yes it would cost more than $10 to make it, but probably not much more than that anyway.

I could also try to repair this Camco one, since I was already refunded, why not give it a try? My approach would be to first try to glue the crack, to keep full length, and if that doesn''t work, just cut it off and shorten the tubing by 1/2". I tried repairing the split with super glue (cyanoacrylate) over night, but it didn''t hold at all. I could also try PVC cement, but neither would be holding it structurally - they usually require totally flat surfaces to bond properly. So I cut it off. Done. The tubing is not flexible at all, and would not go on easily. I tried to dunk it in boiling water, but that didn''t soften it. It''s not like 1/4" vinyl tubing, it''s more like hard PVC plastic. So I pointed the heat gun at it, watched it start to melt, then pushed the tubing on the fitting. Done.

Now, to ensure it won''t split again -- and more importantly, not shoot off into the hot water tank while flushing it -- I need to upgrade it to add some type of protection with clamping force. I thought about putting a hose-clamp on it, but those things are dangerous, with sharp bits sticking out, and a clamp would also shorten the usable length of the wand even further. So I decided to put some heat-shrink tubing. The heat-shrink is pretty stiff and strong once shrunk, would provide a bit of clamping force, would completely envelop the end, and protect it from external damage. A blow from a sharp object at the fitting would be enough to initiate a tear in the plastic which is under tension.

As for Camco -- if you''re listening -- you can *improve* this product and make your customers happy. I think you should put a clamping ring over the fitting, such as a pex-style copper or plastic clamping ring. The copper ring uses a compression tool to provide clamping force. A plastic ring is used in some types of pex fitting, where you use heat to expand the plastic fitting and it shrinks in place as it cools. It''s also possible to use stiffer packaging but that won''t cure the weakness, only make it less likely to happen in-transit to the consumer.

So, there you have it. Get to it, Camco!

I purchased a used RV so there are always questions about how the previous owner kept up with the maintenance. The hot water flow stopped one day (not that it had been as high as the cold previously). I drained the tank and refilled it and all returned to ''normal''. I figured that there must have been some build up in the tank (6 gal.). So I figured it was time to do a pressure clean out. The wand did an amazing job and flushed out an incredible amount. I kept repeating until nothing but clear water was running out of the drain. I installed an anode and filled the tank. Hot water flow is better than ever. Just remember to turn the ''jet'' all directions to loosen all build up. I should have done a video to show all of the debris that came out.

I finally got around to cleaning my RV water heater. I went to Youtube DIY videos on how it is done. This was an invaluable tool in flushing out the Atwood 6 gal Water Heater.

It is slightly flexible, so I could get it into the both the drain hole and pressure valve openings to flush out sediment and debris. I have a 1997 Class C RV, and bought it used. So much scale came out!!! It kept coming and coming! I saved the water to use on my plants. After flushing out, I used this same nozzle to pour industrial cleaning white vinegar into tank from the pressure valve opening (put drain plug back of course). You put 3 gals vinegar into tank, then put pressure valve back on. Turn on city water to fill tank with 3 gals water so you have a 50/50 vinegar water mix. Then turn on the water heater for an hour. Then open pressure valve to bleed out excess (Caution: very hot water shoots out), then leave it open while you open drain hole and get all vinegar out. You can reuse this water on your acid loving plants in small amounts at a time such as roses, palms, not desert plants. After vinegar is all out, flush out tank via drain hole using this wand till it is completely clean. Replace drain plug, turn on city water and flush out all faucets, showers, toilet so that there is no vinegar in system. You can see the whole process on Youtube under RV Geeks.

This wand also cleans out toilet tanks, though there is a better product for that. Very useful in adding water pressure to your hose for all other types of water cleaning, so strongly recommend purchase.

Amazing product. I drain my tank every year and notice lots of white sediment. Purchased this product shortly after doing my yearly maintenance planning to use this year. But decided to re-do my water heater cleaning. I got 2 or 3 times the amount of white sediment from the bottom of the tank. Since using it I have notice the water heater does not run as long or as often as it did. I have more than saved the purchase price from the savings on the propane. The water heater is the main appliance for my propane usage and I would have normally refilled my 5-- 7.5 gallon tanks end of January but I am still on tank 3. This is a must have for RV maintenance.

Cleaned lots of scale out of our RV hot water tank. I then did a vinegar and water descaling over night and used the sprayer to rinse it off.
